I can’t believe that it’s been a year since I went through the motions of registering this entity as a small business in the gorgeous Green Mountains of Vermont, the place we came to establish roots and grow our family … and business!
Even though the main roads are well paved around here, it’s been a bit bumpy for us as most first years are with business operations. Driveways and side roads – well, that’s a different story. That’s why we deliver with our SUV and it’s grippy snow tires and touch of a button All-Wheel Drive. Why do we do it? So you don’t have to, of course!
This is the driveway to one of our deliveries. I mean… can you just imagine this in the snow?!
What we’ve experienced
Out of the gate, we had a slow spring and summer by ways of making actual deliveries. Nonetheless, we were busy. There was a lot of time spent anticipating what type of structure we should have, building our website, and designing marketing materials. We got around to shaking some hands of those within the community that we’ve come to rely on and have established meaningful partnerships with – you know who you are! Our aim was to plant seeds and keep plugging away.
Leaf peeping season was a bit slow for us, but that’s how we wanted it. Figuring out how it’s all going to work is important. The way I see it, if you’re not sure how it’s going to work, loading up on jobs when there’s a big chance of not performing at top quality can be extremely destructive to a new business. It can either make or break you.
We started slow on purpose, and by the time we got to the holiday season we were in pretty good shape. We were busy enough and learning a lot about the food in the area, the time it takes for different jobs, how many types of different jobs there are, among many other tiny facets that all help the wheel go round.
Just as we hoped, winter was steady. With that success, we’ve got hope that we’ve got this. With continuing to pour time, effort, hard work, blood, sweat and tears into this business and grow it to be more successful. Just kidding! We’re not bleeding, sweating, or crying into your food. We promise to put it all away for you before I start crying happy tears for a job well done and a satisfied customer. Really, I’m a sap and I have no apologies for it. It’s probably because of the quality in me that refuses to let you have a bad experience with us.
Where we’re headed
All that being said, we know that life isn’t perfect, we all have learning to do as we go along. We’d like to personally thank every client and proprietor we’ve done business with for helping us work out the kinks. Because you’ve been awesome and we’re so grateful!
We’re excited to embark on year #2 and have many ideas to explore and put into motion. Won’t you join us in our journey?
